]]>What is conscious fashion?
Conscious fashion may be viewed as a recent addition to the spectrum of terms referring to sustainable and ethical clothing. However, it is beginning to really resonate and means much, much more.
What matters in conscious fashion is the motivation that drives both customers and manufacturers. Aligned to the common goal of producing and buying fashion to high sustainable and ethical standards the conscious fashion supply and customer chain can change behaviour.
The principles are what underpin this type of fashion. Conscious fashion refers to any purchase for fashion items bought with the buyer choosing their item within a value framework that is kind to the planet, and kind to the people who produce the product.
This conscious choice of fashion by the buyer, choosing clothes that meet a certain ideal, is powerful. And it is not simply the promise of sustainable fashion provided by the manufacturer that counts. Nor is it the exciting new range of ethical clothing offered to the customer that matters. What is really powerful is when the producer, the supplier and the buyer all align to such a purposeful ideal, then conscious fashion can have a very positive effect.
YunikuLondon and Conscious Fashion
At YunikuLondon our customers make their choices through a conscious search for good quality fashion produced through ethical channels.
We are proud to say that we adhere to the positive principles of conscious fashion. For example, through conscious purchasing, we source materials ethically to provide a good choice of stylish and comfortable clothing made largely with organic materials and sourced in a sustainable way. We keep a short supply chain, so we are directly in touch with our manufacturers. This way we can also attest to the artisans’ skills and their source materials. And we can assure our customers that our craft workers benefit directly from this trade. In this way we provide conscious fashion to our clients
The Conscious Fashion Campaign
Wholeheartedly, we support the growing awareness and actions of the Conscious Fashion Campaign. We believe in this campaign. Despite our small size as an organisation, we are a stakeholder in the fashion industry and believe we have a role to play. We ensure that everything that we do is in line with the principles that will help to change the industry for good.
Actually, by managing our lean format, our sourcing, production and supply chains we ensure that we can provide our clients with conscious fashion choices.
Conscious of the UN Sustainability Development Goals
To underpin our value framework and our goals in maintaining our focus in conscious fashion, we observe the UN Sustainability Development Goals.
In all that we do, we work embracing the positive and life affirming values set down by the UN Sustainability Development Goals. In particular we have chosen to focus on the following:
UN Goal 9.
Industry innovation and infrastructure – we manage a lean structure, embracing and supporting artisans in India, bringing their skills and quality work to a much wider audience through the internet and social media. This helps to sustain their livelihoods in difficult times by tapping into a much bigger marketplace through modern technology.
UN Goal 12.
Responsible production and consumption – we work directly with our artisans, through the best practice of slow fashion principles to ensure the products produced are manufactured to demand and used accordingly with little or no waste.
Goal 15.
Life on land – we use organic materials such as cotton to produce sustainable clothing wherever possible. All are recyclable to ensure purposeful production, and validated consumption in the life of the garment.
Our promise to promote conscious fashion
We know that governments and NGOs are moving to showcase actions and share solutions that will accelerate progress in sustainability. We at YunikuLondon are proud to play a small collaborative part in the effort towards conscious fashion through our innovative collection and promise of sustainable and ethical fashion. Join us on our journey to promote and explore conscious fashion.

In challenging times, we search for what is wholesome and real, things we understand and know to be authentic. More and more of us are looking to what we know and trust, and everything that feels cosy and comforting. Such wholesome experiences include wearing clothes made from natural materials ethically sourced. It is no surprise that sensory comfort brings comfort to the soul and the knowledge that we are helping to protect the planet.
Emerging from a turbulent year, many of us find ourselves increasingly drawn to new sustainable clothing lines using trusted supply chains that ensure everyone benefits. Today it is possible that fashion lines can be produced through known supply chains using authentic materials. There has never been a better time for sustainable fashion.
Our YunikuLondon story
Drawing inspiration from the growing demand for clothes made from sustainable materials, I went back to my roots. With a professional background in the clothing industry in India, I represented some of the best-known quality clothing brands for years. I know how and was paid to manage sustainable supply chains, ensuring that they could not be broken with cheaper productions options. When setting up Yuniku London I wanted to work with the supply chain and sustainable materials that I trusted.
A family affair
When designing our YunikuLondon fashion lines and managing the production supply chains for our clothes, I wanted to work with people I know and trust. Both in the UK and in India I wanted to ensure that all our fashion and home ware items are produced using sustainable materials and remain ethical end to end.
So, I called on my own family in India and also a number of family micro businesses of artisans we know and have worked with for years. Together we produce our YunikuLondon sustainable fashion lines from lounge wear to kaftans, accessories and home ware.
We trust our network of micro businesses
The artisans we collaborate with in India specialise in classic designs and hand-made clothing. They run their own micro businesses producing beautiful hand-crafted clothes to the highest artisanal standards. In traditional style they craft the wooden blocks used to print the decorative patterns on all our lines from the sustainable clothing and accessories to the colourful bed linen.
‘Artisanal craft delivered to you with the highest standards’
A customer promise true to our goal
Our goal is to make clothing using natural materials so that the clothes can be recycled in due course without harming the planet. This way we can be part of a healthy clothing production line, in a circular economy that helps us maintain a healthy planet. All this is offered to your through our line of YunikuLondon sustainable clothing and home wares.
Minimising waste
Did you know that 100 billion items of clothing are bought each year? And that 3 out of 5 t-shirts bought today are thrown away within 12 months? If you visualise a dump truck of clothing going to landfill every second, that’s what it would look like. Producing beautiful fashion lines and sustainable clothes doesn’t have to be like that. At YunikuLondon we play an active part in managing our materials and supply chain at every stage. We promise you that we will create sustainable clothing from genuine artisans using natural materials to the best of our ability.
We’ve built a network to support our lines of sustainable fashion.
Our products are made in collaboration with a group of families who specialise in artisanal handmade sustainable clothing. We take pride in supporting micro businesses in India using hand crafted authentic materials. Knowing these suppliers well we can attest to their craft and the materials they use in producing each fashion line and our home wares. Every time you buy a product you help an artisanal family.
‘What could be more authentic than real cotton’
Fashion with style and a long life
We offer a new fashion line with ever season, always with the guarantee that the clothes are sustainable and can be recycled. And yet, the new lines are produced with all the values of slow fashion. We take our time to find the right designs for you, the right suppliers for our materials and the best crafts people for the products.
Where possible we use organic materials. Organic cotton is better for the producers and the ecosystem in which it is produced. Instead of more toxic pesticides and fertilisers. Our specialist sourcing of materials leads to the extra real and soft feel of our products.
‘Our new line of sustainable clothing’
Values and purpose drive this business
Our absolute passion is to make clothing sustainable. All our fashion lines are designed to be recyclable. Instead of making waste, we make new products that can play a part in a circular supply chain. And we treat our suppliers fairly, so that everyone wins. You can find the best fashion product, produced using authentic materials by artisans who are well paid for their work. We certainly aim to provide you with the best in ethical fashion and sustainable clothing.

]]>Conglomerates are rolling out ‘Social Impact Strategies’ to create public value that is systematic, sustainable, and innovative. High-street chains are politely asking the buyers to make a small donation at the check-out counter to their nominated cause.
Every year, thousands of tonnes of clothes are thrown away with household waste and as much as 95% of those clothes could be recycled. Throw away fashion may be in keeping with trend-setters and influencers, but the planet is paying the price for our social media following!
Paying it forward has become a way of life but are we just ticking a box or saving lives through conscious fashion?
Yes, says Yuniku London.
At the core of Yuniku London is a desire to help people in crisis. With every purchase made, an Artisan family is supported. Combining sustainable fashion – expanding the lifespan of a garment and eco-fashion – taking ethical steps in style, Yuniku is paving the way.
Sharing heritage is sharing history.
Our ethical clothing brand Yuniku London is on a mission to become the UK’s go-to fashion collective – inspired to design, educate, and inspire. Empowered to tell the story from product creation to the virtual shelf, our Yuniku London team are passionate educators behind the steps we take for the ultimate community experience. Living by a set of unwavering personal and professional values, my sisters and I created an idea to rebuild crippling communities.
There is no doubt that the world is in a precarious position. The global pandemic has shaken the globe economically, physically, societally and for many – lives have changed on a massive scale. For some, there is no bounce-back in sight but that does not mean we should give up on those who have given up on themselves.
Developing countries have been the hardest hit during the COVID-19 shockwave – due to inadequate healthcare and a struggling financial system. This has been the case for a struggling Artisan community in Faridabad, India. Lives have been lost in a poverty-stricken city with little help from the ‘outside world’ and without a sustainable plan, sadly this is likely to worsen.
It can be misconstrued, that whilst help in the form of charitable donations can make a huge difference, a community needs sustainability. Perhaps this quote tells it better, ‘Give a man a fish, and you can feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you can feed him for a lifetime’.
Touched by the suffering of the Faridabad people, I turned my passion into my purpose and created Yuniku London. Our UK-based brand now creates conscious & sustainable fashion and the city under pressure – Faridabad, is producing the handcrafted products. Providing families with this much-needed relief has now transformed the lives of many.
Developing the design and creative process, I created a conveyor belt of ‘skills sharing’, artisan crafting, and consciously created a range of products that supports the people.
With ethically sourced and natural fabrics, Yuniku London wants to make people comfortable – from the fabric on our skin to the lives we lead. And we can all do our bit to support eco-entrepreneurs – here is how:
1 / / Do not buy clothes just because they are accessible, trendy, and penny-saving. Avoid retailers who are known for their fast fashion and throw away fashion ideals! Greenwashing is a thing and doing your high-street homework can change a life!
2 / / Look for certification labels like GOTS and Fair Trade before buying clothes to verify that the workers and environment are treated well.
3 / / Follow the industry leaders in eco-fashion, such as Good On You – the UK’s source of trusted brand ratings, articles, and expertise on ethical and sustainable fashion.
4 / / Donate, repurpose or sell your used but wearable clothes. Purchase second-hand if ethically made clothing is outside of your budget.
5 / / Choose brands that practice sustainable business. Before buying anything, make sure you use every piece of clothing in your closet.
But how can this ethos impact our planet? Mother-Earth has been screaming out for quite some time, 'give me a break!' So, shouldn't we start listening to her? Eco-conscious clothing is made using natural energy and avoiding pollution. While ethical fashion may not solve all of our problems with un-safe fuels, water shortages, carbon footprint, and overflowing landfills, it allows us to reduce our impact on the environment.
Fast fashion is killing the planet. The clothing industry is the second-highest polluter of clean water. Retailers of fast fashion dump toxic chemicals into clean water supplies because clothing is an intense production line of waste. Add the mileage of clothing distribution we are now ‘amping’ up transportation if we do not consider each ethical step.
At the core of Yuniku London is a desire to help people in crisis. With every purchase made, an Artisan family is supported. Combining sustainable fashion – expanding the lifespan of a garment and eco-fashion – taking ethical steps in style, Yuniku London is paving the way.
When we exchange our cultural backgrounds, we trigger a conversation about what matters. The exclusive Yuniku London collection of heritage garments can be sampled with the people in the UK, from the backstory of our brand to the very stitching you choose to wear. As a fashion expert, I am inspired to change lives through social innovation. Despite a UK lockdown, the mission of this company is to enter the homes of Britain. The new spring 2021 collection is coming up online and Yuniku London is certainly one to watch!
With a mission to create communities that count – we are a team of change-makers who are doing it all!

Hope you are having a safe and quiet festive break.
What a strange year we all have had!
Upon reflection this long period of enforced reflection has had some positive outcomes. It has led us all to rethink lifestyle changes we need to make for a cleaner, and greener future.
The need to change now and quickly is picking up pace each day.
I don't remember a time in my life when clothing and food was such a conversation starter. Vegetarian, pescatarian or whatever changes people are making to their diet, everyone is talking about it. The debates start around wanting a greener future and what are the best choices to make.
Making those important choices about what goes inside and on the outside of their bodies and how it affects their health and our planet. During our family dinner times we sometimes have heated discussions about what is right for us, for other people and for the planet.
I see that our new food choices are being reflected in the fashion industry.
How? I hear you ask…
Well, when we buy food we make a choice to buy free range eggs or organically produced eggs because we know it supports and encourages a better environment for the hens.
Yet the environment and choices around how our clothes are sourced and produced is often overlooked. Covid has forced big fashion brands to re-think their core ethos, their values and purpose. Some have become more transparent with their supply chain, but there is still a long way to go.
At Yuniku London our very foundation was based on creating a sustainable future for all of us.
From the source and producers of our wonderful crafted clothes to the conscious efforts we make to create a sustainable fashion line.
Knowing more about the clothes and how their production can affect the environment & people is an important step in making the conscious choice for consumers.
We make those conscious fashion decisions for you at every step at Yuniku London so you can be certain what you are buying is as good as it can be and produced in the best possible way for the planet and the producers we collaborate with.
All this to bring you quality crafted artisanal clothes and homewares that are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to live with.
And they are good for the planet. What could be better?
Transparency in the positive supply chain helps customers think about the positive difference they are making with their purchase. We want to help you make that positive step when you buy our clothes and home wares.
By choosing our clothes home wares you know we will have done the hard work for you. We have selected the ethical sources for our materials. We only work with ethical suppliers. We use sustainable materials thinking and planning for a greener future.
My sisters and I are still in the early days of our clothing brand but it's our intention to work towards a sustainable and transparent supply chain. I am learning every day and although I am pretty sure I’m making mistakes along the way, please know we will be sharing this journey with you so you can come along too. Discover a world of more sustainable choices and a greener future with us at Yuniku London.
On this positive note, our YL family wishes you happy holidays what ever holidays you are celebrating, enjoy your choices.
